Here’s just a couple ingredients you might not have cooked with before:
β (1) Plantains: These are the starchier, less sweet version of the banana, and often called a hidden superfood! Plantains are complex carbohydrates packed with antioxidants and fiber, so great for digestion, weight loss, and chronic disease prevention.
β (2) Dried Chile Powders: These spices come in a wide range of flavors and heat levels, and all will help with decreasing inflammation in the body. Capsaicin, the main compound in chiles, has also been shown to act as a pain reliever and it can support better brain function.
β (3) Whole Chile Peppers: Just like their dried counterparts, these fruits are incredible for inflammation, and pain relief. They can also help clear congestion, boost immunity, and help with your progress towards better heart numbers.
You’ll learn how to work with each of these exotic ingredients, so you can produce restaurant worthy dishes at home. π€ΈββοΈ
Here’s some of this month’s recipe highlights:
Arroz con Frijoles: Rice and Beans
Any time we can fuel our bodies with plant-based proteins we cut back on saturated fat levels, increasing the health of our cardiovascular system. This perfect protein pairing also gives a big boost to energy levels and digestion thanks to all the slow-digesting fiber both contain.
The Sazon mix used to flavor the rice is filled with beneficial spices that can help the body with stomach issues, skin irritations, and joint pain. Because cumin, coriander, and ground annatto seeds are anti-inflammatory, they can have a big impact on these health challenges!
This dish uses cuts like brisket and or flank steak- these have lower saturated fat levels, and higher protein per ounce, so they are the ideal cuts when looking to manage weight and heart health. The B vitamins provided from the meat can also help energy levels and optimize metabolism!
With the addition of spices and vegetables this dish can help lower inflammation, improve blood and heart numbers, and protect cells from damage that might lead to chronic disease.
Tostones- Baked Plantains with Chimichurri Inspired Dipping Sauce
Plantains are a great source of potassium (even more than bananas) and this can help balance fluid retention, lower blood pressure, and protect against stroke and osteoporosis. These fruits also contain fiber and vitamin A, supporting the eyes, skin, digestive tract, and energy levels.
Tostones, or fried plantains have become a very popular substitution for chips these days, thanks to the fact that they are packed with nourishment, and also gluten free! Instead of the traditional double frying method, we bake these to maintain their wonderful health benefits.
