Dishes to Help Balance Blood Sugars
These quick and delicious recipes will show you the best ways to enjoy all the foods you love, while keeping sugar spikes to a minimum.
DISCLAIMER: We’ve created these recipes using some ingredients known to help balance or reduce high blood sugars. However, everyone is unique so please be sure to measure your blood sugars and / or consult your Doctor to make sure these recipes are suitable for you.
Read on below for some tips on keeping those blood sugars balanced!
✅(1) Fiber: Fiber is essential for satisfying appetite and improving heart health, but its main power lies in how it can help with controlling blood sugars. Fiber doesn’t require insulin to digest, and by consuming soluble fiber specifically you can slow the absorption of sugar so energy stays even and glucose numbers remain steady.
✅(2) Healthy Fats: When looking to prevent or manage diabetes, healthy fats have been shown to help with insulin resistance and are essential for heart health, which is at risk the higher blood sugars rise. Insulin resistance is associated with inflammation, but by consuming more omega 3s you can help decrease inflammation and its’ effects throughout the body.
✅(3) Protein: A high-protein diet can help with appetite and weight loss, and minimize sugar spikes as protein has no impact on glycemic index. Getting in more sources of lean protein has also been shown to lower blood glucose in persons with type 2 diabetes and improves overall glucose control.
Here are some of this month’s recipe highlights:
Oven Roasted Turmeric Chicken Thighs

Protein is the best way to slow down carbohydrate absorption, so we’ve made sure this dish packs in plenty from both chicken thighs, as well as the sweet potatoes hidden underneath. That, along with the fiber from our vegetables will limit sugar spikes.
Turmeric can help improve insulin resistance as well as cholesterol and reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body. This combo, along with the antioxidant compounds from the sweet potatoes and fennel will be sure to help you find better balance!

No need to run out and buy crackers anymore, this homemade version is simple to prepare, free of refined flours, additives, and sugar, AND packed with major amounts of protein and fiber. These are whole grain based, and provide heart healthy fats.
Healthy fats like omega 3s are an important part to staying satisfied, keeping energy even, and reducing inflammation. This snack is an excellent choice for heart health, weight loss, and better blood sugar numbers.
Raspberry Yogurt Breakfast Bark

When looking to balance blood sugars, breakfast is a must. Protein is the major factor when aiming for steadier energy and looking to reduce sugar spikes, so we’ve made sure there are a few varied sources here with our yogurt, nuts, and quinoa.
Date syrup and banana will be our natural sweeteners, both of which come with a much lower impact on glycemic index. Raspberries will add extra fiber, and are linked to lower fasting blood sugar levels and better management of insulin sensitivity.
