Weekly challenge
Cook a new grain as either a side or a main meal this week (try our Homemade Sausage & Fennel Risotto or Homemade Sushi with Brown Rice!) Complete the Discussion Questions attached below & share your photos from last week.
NOW SHARE YOUR PROGRESS IN THE HOMEMADE MEMBERS’ FACEBOOK GROUP BY ANSWERING THESE QUESTIONS:
1. Did you have success with the Searing Challenge last week? Post your pics in our FB Group!
Were you able to sear a piece of meat, chicken, fish or a vegetable to complete your weekly challenge last week? Did you succeed in getting a nice brown crust & cooking it to your taste through the middle? If not, what could you do differently next time to get a better result? Post your photos of your seared delights – or bloopers! – in our FB Group.
2. Do you ever experience guilt or emotions around eating? Have a read of some other Members’ responses in the FB Group and comment on 2-3 you can relate to.
Where do you think these feelings & behaviors come from? What do you think would happen if you decided to drop the guilt, restrictions & emotions around eating? (And are you willing to give it a go?!)
BONUS CHALLENGE: Keep on ‘Listening to your Body’ whenever you eat, and become especially mindful of the emotions and inner dialogues you have around food. See if you can drop these and just let your hunger & body guide your eating (it takes time to master – but it sure beats dieting!)
BUILD ON IT: Continue to enjoy Homemade Smoothies, Homemade Breakfasts & Homemade Salads as much as you can. Try to cook using searing and your oven for a couple of dinners this week. And don’t forget to keep applying the principles of flavor combining in your cooking (ie. Salty, sweet, sour, fat & bitter combined & balanced is what makes food taste good :).
TIPS FOR SUCCESS:
- Eating whole grains is very beneficial for your health, energy & satiety. So load up on these healthy carbs!
- To save time, try boiling a pot of water and cooking your grain as a side while you are searing your protein for dinner, making a salad or while you are roasting something in the oven.
- The trick to cooking deliciously light & fluffy grains is to get your ratios of water to grains correct. See our Grains Cooking Guide in this week’s ‘Cooking Skills’.
- Check out our Great Grains recipes for ideas of some new whole grains you can try, such as quinoa, bulgar, farro, cous cous and many others!
